Don Cornelius, the smooth-voiced television host who brought black music and culture into America’s living rooms when he created the dance show “Soul Train,” was found dead at his home in Los Angeles early Wednesday in what appeared to be a suicide, the authorities said. He was 75.

Police officers responding to a report of a shooting found Mr. Cornelius’s body at 4 a.m. on the floor of his house on Mulholland Drive with a gunshot wound to the head. It appeared to have been self-inflicted, said Ed Winter, the Los Angeles County assistant chief coroner.

He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The police said they had ruled out murder and were talking to relatives about Mr. Cornelius’s mental state.

Man, I didn't even know he was sick. His voice was one of a kind, and Soul Train was great for Black artist. I don't know if we'll ever have another show like it, or a man like him and that smooth ass voice.

RIP

RIP. You can clearly tell his soul was troubled with the disturbing news that is coming out now. Even money can't protect you from losing your mind. In fact, it may be one of those contributors, especially when you compound it onto everything else in life.

I'm so glad I got to convince my mom to get the Soul Train best of. Seeing some of the black musical legends that I didn't get to see before I was born was amazing. He even put some white acts on the map, like David Bowie, Robert Palmer, Average White Band, KC and the Sunshine Band, and even the Bee Gees. I just wish they would release every episode on DVD/Blu-ray, but I know to secure the rights to performances like that would cost serious money. It's a collection of rich musical heritage.

Plus, Rick James high out of his mind on every single performance he ever had on there. Priceless.

Don Cornelius is a legend! He is my first superhero. Soul Train was a part of my Saturday ritual since I can remember. If they did find a way to release every single episode on to DVD/Blu-ray, I'm definitely buying that! Might have to go to Japan and see if they have it. The Japanese LOVE Soul Train.
