Keeping Organized

This relates mainly to those who have external hard drives or large hard drives.

How do you keep your things organized? Do you have general folders, or everything in one folder and just search for it?

I'm trying to organize 2 TB of info and I'm not sure I'm doing this the right way, so any suggestions would be appreciated. :clap:

I keep everything seperated according to what it is and where I got it from. Torrents are labled BT Downloads, site rips are divided into subfolders according to the site they originated from. When I download streaming movies with realplayer I put them in folders of 2gb or less. Movies(non-porn), music, software and pictures are labled as such and the movies and pictures are seperated into subfolders. everything is sorted by the date it was created/modified so I can know exactly where it is. I've only got about 1tb of stuff, spread over 3 hard drives but keeping it organized helps when I need to find something.

I only have a 500 GB external, and yeah, they are separated by what's in the folders.

I've been trying to see what method works best for me. I've decided to separate info based on the 4 sites I run, and then general folders for Documents, Graphic Design, Games, etc.

I find for myself, I have to be very specific or I'll NEVER find it.

Well it helps when you have a system. And since windows lets you sort the things in your folders Alphabetically, by date, size etc....just find one that works best for ya.

After losing my 1 TB of carefully organized porn, by performer, to a fucked up seagate external, I have yet to reorganize my now 2 TB collection. I'll probably do it by theme and then by performer. Using windows 7 makes it pretty easy to keep up and find stuff.
