My family was never really an affectionate type of family. So telling people I love them is kinda new to me and has always been kind of uncomfortable. I don't recall ever saying I love you to a family member except my mom until I was an adult.

It seems like now though that everyone is saying I LOVE YOU.

Do you think people say it to freely?

Who do you say I love you to?

Outside of family now

My ex's sister
My God kids

Thats it I believe

It is definitely used too frivolously.

I haven't said "I love you" and meant it in many years.

I was having a conversation about this a couple days ago. I realized that I've never loved anybody who wasn't in my family, even though I say that phrase all the time.

When I was a kid, we heard and said it all the time. It was always "Goodnight Mom, goodnight Dad, I love you". And with the grandparents too. I don't remember using it that much between aunt or uncles or cousins, but that was about it.

The only people I mean it towards now are still my family. But I use it all the time as a joke. If I'm having a conversation with a girl, and she says something like "I love giving head" or something of that nature, I'll look her in the eye and say it. And when someone does me an unexpected favor, like take me to the store at the last minute, I'll say it as I hop in the car. But rarely do I say it with any real meaning attached.

If I love you, I have NO problem telling you, and I don't think you can say it too freely, unless you don't mean it. If you mean it, nothing wrong with expressing it.

I've learned life is way too short, so I like to make sure those around me, know exactly how I feel about them.

I tell my SO every convo we have. My family hears it and says it daily. Some of my closest friends hear it often.

I say it to long time close friends, family, of course, and my SO. Anyone else? You'd better get in the circle of love trust from me. Once you do, it's difficult to escape.

And yes, I agree with what Chelle said.

my family was kinda like yours. i was the only male in the house growing up and we only said i love you after a crisis or on christmas morning.

then when i graduated from high school the chick i was dating was really big on pda and general mushy shit. she fell in love with me and i liked her a lot but i didn't say it right away. after hearing her say it every time we spoke and saw each other i started sayin it back. then we had a terrible break up. oh well.

i still don't say it often, but i say it more than i used to.

When I was younger I used to say it alot....now? Not so much

I've realized that there are only a select few people that I say this word to.

My mom (the only person I say it to on a regular basis)
My cousin
My goddaughter
Meems
& My 2 closest, bestest female friends....(even though I know they wanna choke me sometimes...lol)

...and I can never recall saying it to my pops(or any other male....ugh)

I'm not sure if people say it too freely. They surely don't do so in my family or the people I know.

I've said "I Love You" to maybe ten people and meant it. Four in my immediate family, four outside and we'll throw in two more for grandparents (for good measure).
