Figured I'd start a discussion thread for the new site.

If you were with someone and were engaged to get married and their family HATED you. Not just didn't like you but becuase you're with their family member they tolerate you. I mean HATE you and makes no issue with letting it be known any chance that they get that they HATE you.

The constantly tell your SO that they are making a mistake by marrying you and that the marriage will not last. Would you stay with them? Would you be able to continue a relationship with them doing that you aren't accepted and they don't even want you at family gatherings? How would you handle the situation?

I'd tell them to walk that shit off. What's between me and her is between me and her. Either she better handle that biz with her fam, or I will. Simple as that. If they already hate me, what would I have to lose?

I gotta co-sign with the Voodoo on this one...

I guess most families like that don't realize that the person is not marrying the family, but marrying INTO the family for heritage's sake. Still, either shut up or let me move on about my business...

I'm with Voodoo and War on this one. I would have no problem with ignoring her family members because I'm in love with her and will be spending my life with her in regards to living together and whatnot. They can learn to accept it or live their lives going 'Gah damn I hate that nucca.' because there's a 99.91 percent chance that I won't be thinking about 'Damn I wonder if her family still hate me.' while i'm putting hickies on my wife's inner thigh.

I think Meems was reading Romeo and Juliet or something.

Can't say much that hasn't been said already. I wouldn't be concerned with what the family thinks of me. All that means is I would spend less time around those mofos. Ain't no way I'm letting them chase me away from someone I love enough to spend my life with. They'll just have to either live with it and grow to like me, or just don't say shit to me.

Who the fuck cares what anyone else thinks. There's only 2 people in a marriage right? Well unless you're a polygamist.

I'm all for saying "fuck the in-laws". Hell, I can feel the same way about my own family. If we fall out and aren't speaking, I'm cool. But that's just me.

Gotta see how it would affect her though. At first the family focuses their hate on me. But, after we're married, they may start to focus the hatred on her...iggin her at family functions, stuff like that.

I don't want to the be cause of someone falling out with their family. So we'd have to talk seriously about the whole situation.
